Come Up Higher: Rediscovering Who You Are In Christ. From The Book Of Ephesians.

As we embark on a new series on the book of Ephesians, themed ‘Come Up Higher,’ we are called to rediscover our spiritual strength, vision and intelligence in Christ. The call to ‘Come Up Higher’ comes from Revelation, where an angel said to John, “Come up here!” (Revelation 4:1). It;s a divine invitation to rise above the ordinary and live with a Heavenly perspective.

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up on wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” ~ Isaiah 40:31

Set Your Mind On Things Above

“Seek those things which are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on earthy things.”~ Colossians 3:1-2

As believers, we must set out minds on eternal things. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 12:2 to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. A renewed mind is critical for living out our true identity in Christ. Jesus didn’t leave us to guess who we are; He gave us a reminder through His table, saying, “Do this is remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19). We need to remember His death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and His soon return. These eternal truths anchor us to a higher calling.

Just as eagles soar above 15,000 feet, seeing even the smallest detail from such great height, we too are called to a higher plane of existence in Christ. You are not a chicken scratching in the dirt, confined to earthly concerns. You are an eagle! You are designed to soar on wings like eagles. That is who you are in God.

Change Your Beliefs About Yourself

Today, as part of the ‘Come Up Higher’ series, we focus on changing what we believe about ourselves. Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” What you believe about yourself shapes your reality. That’s why it is critical to ensure that your beliefs are grounded in the Word of God, not in worldly doctrines or temporary trends.

Let’s explore what Ephesians teaches us about our identity in Christ:

1. You Are Here On Assignment

You are not here by accident. Just as Paul was an apostle by the will of God, you are here by divine design. God planned you before you were born. He created you with a purpose and a unique assignment. Ephesians 1:1 begins with Paul addressing those in Ephesus, reminding them that they are not just ordinary people living in a corrupt city- they are saints, set apart by God for His holy purposes.

This applies to you as well. You have a God-given assignment, and it is essential to discover it and walk in it. Whether it’s in your local Church, your family, or the world at large, God has placed you where you are for a divine reason.

2. You Are a Special Person

Paul addresses the saints in Ephesus, a city riddled with immorality and sin. Despite their environment, they were called “holy and faithful” in Christ. Similarly, you may find yourself in a world filled with chaos and corruption, but you are not contaminated by it. You are set apart, sanctified for God’s purpose.

3. You Have an Inheritance of Grace and Peace

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” ~ Romans 8:37

Grace and peace are your inheritance as a child of God. Romans 8:31-39 reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. This unshakable truth is why you can live with grace, peace, and security. You are divinely favored! Wherever you go, God’s favor goes with you. His peace guards your heart in every situation.

4. You Serve a Blessed God

Paul frequently breaks out into praise, saying, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!” (Ephesians 1:3). Our God is blessed because He is eternal and unchanging. Hebrews 13:8 tells us that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He transcends the universe as its Creator, yet He is intimately involved in your life.

God’s greatness compels us to bless Him: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name” (Psalm 103:1). As we bless Him, we become beneficiaries of His blessings, which flow from His nature.

5. You Are Blessed, So Give Thanks

God has blessed you with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). He has placed a hedge of protection around you, just as He did with Job. Satan had to ask permission to touch Job, and even then, God set limits—Job’s life could not be taken. Even in the trials, Job remained faithful, and God restored him with double for his trouble.

You are blessed, and no one can curse what God has blessed. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart.” You are not an accident. God planned your life before you were born, and He has an assignment for you.

Whenever you recognize God’s blessings in your life—whether it’s your family, your health, or your peace—that’s a moment to give thanks. Lift your voice and say, “Thank you, Lord!”

6. Be Careful What You Speak Over Your Life

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (Proverbs 18:21). What you speak over your life matters. Jeremiah received the Word of the Lord, and that word shaped his destiny. In the same way, we must speak the Word of God over our lives. Let His Word be the determining factor of your future.

Psalm 139:1 says, “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.” God knows every detail of your life, and His Word should be the foundation of your beliefs. Speak life over yourself, your family, and your future.

God Knows You

To conclude, let’s remember this: God knows you. He sees you. He created you. You came out of Him. You are no accident, and your assignment is established. You cannot run from God because He sees you wherever you go. You are blessed because you serve a blessed God, and He has all the resources you need for life.

As we end, give thanks for the blessings God has bestowed upon you, and declare this:

  • I am not cursed; I am blessed! And who God has blessed, no man can curse.
  • I will not let anyone tell me that I can’t, because “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” (Philippians 4:13).

Today, rise higher in Christ. Change your belief about yourself and soar on wings like eagles!
